Grant Season

Oh dear oh dear. I'm way too busy at work, shoveling my way through the fall grant avalanche.

And now I'm getting a cold.

Time for something calming.

Hermetically sealed

Here's the room we're living in. Jane Eyre & Mrs. Rochester?

Sometimes the best thing to do is get into bed with your dog and stay there.

Corner office

I admit that I'm a collector. Little arrangements of stuff everywhere.

Here's the windowsill next to my desk at work. Double-click on the picture for an improved view.

Fed up

Apparently my blog couldn't handle looking at more demolition and construction. Much like myself.

Time for appeasement. Some Smurf-flavored ice cream as a special treat?

Testing, testing

Oh dear

My blog is sick! No more photos until I plunge into the strange, dark world of HTML, a foreign universe.

Kitchen Wannabe

That blank space in back is the kitchen.

Take-out anyone?

So how's your construction going?

We (i.e. ME) moved back into our house last weekend. All of our dear, concerned family members and colleagues keep asking "So, how's you're construction going?"

Here's our latest mail delivery; half in, half out.

Tantrum?

Harvest moon

There's a beautiful harvest moon tonight. I'm happy to be back in Fairmount, my Philadelphia neighborhood, the (relatively) highest point in Phila, with a wide open view of the sky over the Eastern State Penitentiary. I'm knitting a hat with alchemical yarn the color of the harvest moon.

Another day at work

Hiatus

This is a space filler while I move out of our temporary summer apartment loaner back into our house, which is way way way way way behind the conservative, carefully planned, well thought out renovation schedule. Somehow I thought:

that construction would be different this time,
that we'd be on time,
that the neighbors would love our constuction crew,
that I'd stay on budget,
that I'd keep scrupulous track of all expenses,
that I'd take time to develop the design details,
that I'd take time to select stuff I really liked...

Hazmat suit

Time to knit that hazmat suit.

Wendy's helmet liner could also come in handy.

Into the flood

My husband is going to New Orleans tomorrow to salvage archives and artworks. He'll have armed guards. A friend is lending him her snake bite kit.

Fall approaching

After my mother died, her friends created a woodland garden in her memory. They transplanted most of the native plants from her home garden around a pond at the local Audubon refuge. Six years later my father died and I took a photograph of the pond on the day of his funeral.

Compelling, satisfying

Order, beauty

Unimaginable

The flood waters in New Orleans are filled with snakes.

Devastation

I cannot imagine losing everything at once.
